Stampin Up HQ

This is the second time I have visited the SU Headquarters.....the people in our group around the Stampin Up stamp are as follows: I am in the white hat....sorry.....the rest of the people are Cindy Schuster (in white top and black skirt...who took this picture on a timer...she is a MDS guru....really good!!), Monika Davis (my adopted upline...third from left....the next two were from Michigan), Diane Squires (second from left....friend and roomie)...other side of the stone is Michele Schmidt and Diane Workman (both from Iowa)....met Michele at Leadership...really nice lady...standing next to me is Stephanie (From Va and Monika's sister in law....very nice and classy lady)....last but not leastis Lisa Swantek (have to check the spelling of her last name...she did the five year walk with me...very attractive and positive person!!)....believe the lady between me and Diane is ELizabeth.....

Wonderful 60th birthday story

This is such a heart warming story
Over a month ago....I had a knock at the door....this is unusual as I am isolated in a commercial area...the gentleman introduced himself and never connected who he was until he mentioned his wife, Deb. Deb comes to my classes and does cards in record time....well, Howard had stopped over to ask me to make his wife a special card for her 60th birthday..he wanted to pay me but I said that was ok...just send it to me in the mail.....................................he wanted a real special card................that is the sweetest thing I have ever seen a husband do....I just couldn't get over how special that really was...so I was determined to make it really special...I downloaded a lot of cards and it took me a month to decide which one she would appreciate the most.....below is the card...it took me ssssoooo many tries before I got it just perfect....sorry that I had to use a MS punch but it was the only one I could get this corner look...rest is SU..........used the diagonal plate for the envelope.......the only change I would have made was put the 60th birthday on a tag attached to the card...lol.....I delivered the card to Howard's brother (and that is a story in itself....lol...got lost...)....got a wonderful note from Deb and a generous check from Howard...she loved it....(( had told Howard I would do it for free....but the payment  was a wonderful surprise..lol)

I needed a wider ribbon, so that isn't SU either...sorry......have a wonderful day....

swaps from convention

These are my swaps for convention....the top one is from a class and just added Happy Birthday to it. In both of the poppy cards, I used stazon and then colored with marker...let them set until dry and then I sponged the background..prettier in person....the bottom one is the one that took the longest to complete...thanks to my friend Carol who did most of the white embossing for the mirror technique...I participated in the swap with Joann Cristo....that was one of the best swaps I have ever done and most were quality cards.....I did 161 of these ( I know completely insane...lol)...made the mirror card into a buckle card using our mini punches that came out in this years catty....I was really pleased...did Robin's happy dance...a lot of work but loving it...lol

Have an enjoyable day....will not post until tomo evening, as I am headed to Woodstock for one of Monika's wonderful downline meetings....I am an adoptee...am doing a make n take with the small basket ...will post next week......

My preconvention project

What a great time at convention...So many laughs and good times...With Diane Squires and I , it started with preconvention at the Radisson.   This is the project we made...I came up with it from an idea from Amy Kirchner and a tutorial of Sandi Dailey......when I tried the tutorial , the purse was large and the inside very very small.....so I redesigned it to be a smaller purse and the inside was big enough to  put in two note cards......here is the project..  A special thank you to Leishman and GInger, Diane's downlines...who helped us with the big shot cuting....
If you do this project on your own/with a class, use the glimmer brads and ribbon for the handles...it is a much cuter look....but we had a set limit to spend so we did most of the purse with paper.
2 pieces of cardstock are needed for this project. The outside of the purse is cut 5 3/4 x 10; the inside piece is cut 7 1/2 x 6 1/2

Outside of purse:

The 5  3/4 x 10 is scored at 4 1/2  and 5 1/2 (the 10 in side is across the top of the scoring board). After the purse is scored, use temporary adhesive to glue the top on the purse together.  Post it note is used to attach the edgelit (ador:ning accent)....run the top through the big shot until it goes over the edgelit and then go in the reverse.   You have the bottom scored and you don't want to run it all the way through the big shot.  After you cut the top.....make a tic mark 1/2 inch up from each of the score line (that form the bottom of the purse)....you can see this in the photo using the green cardstock below
The top picture shows how to make the tic marks on each side of the purse....the second picture shows you with the white gel pen the part that is cut off from each side to make the purse wider at the top.......you draw lines from the tic lines to the edge of each corner.

After this is done, it is a good time to attach the handles....these were cut from scraps from the pieces that were cut for both parts....in these pictures below, they show with the gel pen where to attach the brad for both handles....the embossing folder (adorning accents) was also used on both sides of the top of the purse
This picture doesn't show the brad attached...the brad would be attached below the white gel mark....on the embossing accent part...put the brad on the  downward point of the curve....attach both handles....one on each side

Inside the purse:

With the 7 1/2 side at the top, score it at 3 1/4 and 4 1/4.....with the 6 1/2 side at the top, score each side in one inch.  Cut the score lines as shown in the picture below....cut them in at an angle as shown in the picture below:

Tape is applied to each tab...on the other side the sticky tape is applied to the end of the center tab.
At this point, the handles are already attached....I left them off in the sample so you could see the tape and how the purse is put together....two strips of sticky tape on each side...attach one side at a time...I did not glue the bottom.

The front of the purse has a 3 x 6 piece of DSP...I used Summer smoochies...use the edgelit to cut the piece at the top and the bottom ...if you look at the picture at the top you can see how it is cut...use post its to keep edgelit from moving. It is then glued on the front.

Rose or Flower for the front of the purse:

Punch either 5 of the scallop or fancy flower....attach them with a mini brad............if you spray each level with a mist of water and crumble as you go, your flower will be fuler.

Here is how I made the notecards...with two embossing folders...just butted them up against each other to make the frame for the vases..

Pictures from our preconvention stamp camp

Here are some picutres of our preconvention stamp camp area(.this is Sherrill's  LNS preconvention)..project will be posted later today....the top picture is of Diane Squires and me in front of my project...so many thanks go to two of Diane's downline...Leishman and Ginger...without them the cutting for 120 kits would not have been posssible

Getting ready for convention..

I have been sssssooo behind....between having work done in my house, dealing with a mice problem (literally and figuratively...lol) and getting ready for convention...am in overload. I really have no excuse except that I signed up for so many things....My customers enjoy seeing the samples and taking a picture of them so I can not overlook a lot of swaps. Will put them out a little at a time...lol Have to spread them out for a time. Although that really isn't true....I have four swaps in August and have to finish them after convention because I will visit my favorite uncle in KY and go to OH to visit family and friends. My convention roomie, and friend, Diane was able to get two of her downline...Ginger and Leishman to help with the preconvention kits. Without them, it would have been a two day job ....at least. I wish we had taken photos for our blogs...we had four big shots going...two of them mine...need to order more plates. I had done the designing, cutting and scoring of the kits, but we had to do all the big shot work and there was a lot. The worse part was packing everything up in 100 degree heat...see, I am a Yankee (with previous heat issues) so you know this heat is kicking my behind. I think I stop breathing when I go from a/c to outside to say the least. I just finished 160 plus WOW cards...that was a job...one of my customers and friend, Carol helped me with the embossing....embossing 320 items is no simple and short feat...but Carol and is really good...thanks moocho Carol!!! I am working on the 80 plus one for preconvention and have them half full and have been doing and planning 4 classes in two weeks right before convention....bad planning but had to do that so when I return from convention, I can do the swaps for August groups..lol I am co-chairing a annual church garage sale this year....since I was donating a lot of furnishings, I had to get all of them moved to the garage...either by myself or with help...my friends Nita and Mike probably wish I would move. It is difficult for me to ask for help...other than mechanical, but this was a no brainer...lol. We moved a beveled glass table (ssssooo heavy) and sleeper couch...desk, etc...and then all the items were picked up on Monday. I was so zapped!! I live on a lot of land, and this city girl still is not used to some things....am near commercial but only one neighbor and she doesn't come out of her house...lol Due to the tornadoes last year and the damage I had to replace three roofs and there was extensive damage to my garage turned into a room area. The ceiling and leaks were numerous. The white devil dust is still in the clean up process. While the workers were doing the work, the door was left open....hence mice came in. The problem with mice, other than making me scream at the top of my lungs...is that they leave a scent and continue to come in the same way each time. I have a regular exterminator, who came as soon as I called...I was surprised how fast. If you are in AL, you know things are not done quickly...lol. I went to show him the damage and he said it could be one mouse. I went to the bathroom and went to show him where I saw some bedding...I opened the drawer and I see this little mouse and screamed at the top of my lungs....the exterminator asked me if I was ok....when I screamed this mouse jumped out of the drawer and onto the floor and ran into my closet!! He set this sticky traps and caught the one right away in the closet. I have only moved a caught mouse one time and it was dead in a garage trap in OH...the previous time , I called a male friend and he came over and tossed it...lol. I was trying to be brave and went to move it, and the mouse moved. It is still sitting there ...I have to check if it ever dies or just is stuck and you throw it away..I HATE stuff like this.............will find out from my friends if I throw it away while wiggling...I hope not, not sure if I can do that...lol

Black Magic card

This card was made using the black magic technique....you stamp your images in white craft ink and then heat on low....watercolor pencils are then used to color your image....the white gel pen adds the highlights...the argyle embossing folder was used. Day of Gratitude and Mixed Bunch stamp sets were used. The card is gorgeous up close....the picture doesn't really show how well it looks. I used Cajun Craze, Not Quite Navy and Garden Green cardstock. Have a great blessed day....
